Brownish except rump and tail, which are brilliant blue in flight. The bill is black above and red-orange below. Inhabits bush and open woodlands in humid areas. Absent from Kenya's north and east. It can be frequently seen perching on poles or trees, from where it stalks mainly insects, eventually also small vertebrates. Nests in trees.
