Class: Aves Order: Charadriiformes Family: Charadriidae Genus and species: Vanellus tectus Common name: Black-headed plover It can be recognised by the long thin black crest. Inhabits dry areas, from the north of Kenya to Kerio valley and lakes Baringo and Bogoria (to the west) and the parks of Meru, Kora, Tsavo and lower Tana (to the east).
