Very common and widespread below 2,200 m. Only absent from south coast and northeast tip, and is very scarce at the lake Victoria basin. Very frequently found in groups feeding on the ground. Its most distinctive feature, that allows an easy identification from other glossy starlings, is the white breast band. Its song sometimes mimics other birds.
