An inhabitant of open bush and light savannah. Present and easily seen in almost every park or reserve, in pairs or small groups alongside roads, mainly at dawn and dusk. Absent from the lake Victoria basin, almost all the northwest and at the coast, although it is found between Tana and Galana rivers down to their mouths. Due to poaching, only in considerable numbers in protected areas.
