WILDLIFE: BIRDS: AFRICAN FISH EAGLE

African fish eagle
Class: Aves

Order: Falconiformes

Family: Accipitridae

Genus and species: Haliaeetus vocifer

Common name:
African fish eagle

Found around water, either fresh or saline, though it can stray far off it. Spread throughout the country except in the driest north and east. More numerous in the Rift lakes and in lake Victoria. Besides fish, carrion and other birds also make up its diet. In occasions it will steal prey from other raptors. At lake Baringo, Njemps fishermen throw fresh fish at them to the tourists' delight.
