WILDLIFE: BIRDS: RED-BILLED BUFFALO-WEAVER
Class: Aves Order: Passeriformes Family: Ploceidae Genus and species: Bubalornis niger Common name: Red-billed buffalo-weaver Very common and widespread throughout all the dry and low lands east of the Rift valley. Prefers open savannah and scrub. Noisy and gregarious, builds a large thorny nest on thorn trees and baobabs. Feeds on the ground together with other weavers and starlings. Females and juveniles are chestnut and spotted. In Kenya's northwest quadrant it is replaced by the white-billed buffalo-weaver, similar in general aspect.
